The Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) and the American Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association (AHPBA) are pleased to announce that the SSO will perform the mechanics of a combined surgical oncology and HPB match with the understanding that the SSO will oversee the match itself. It was agreed by both SSO and AHPBA leaders that the oversight of the respective fellowship programs will remain independent (i.e., the SSO will oversee the surgical oncology fellowship programs and the AHPBA and the Fellowship Council will oversee the HPB fellowship programs). The goal of the common match is to allow fellowship applicants to apply to either or both types of programs without concern or anxiety over securing their position because of the timing of the respective matches. Program information for SSO-approved Surgical Oncology fellowship programs is located at the following link: http://www.surgonc.org/default.aspx?id=60#1 PLEASE NOTE: The deadline for applying to SSO Surgical Oncology Fellowship Programs is July 1, 2009. Program information for AHPBA Hepato-Pancreato Biliary (HPB) fellowship programs is located at the following link: http://www.fellowshipcouncil.org/ The combined match will begin with the October 2009 match. The SSO will post a Combined Match Application and instructions on its Web site by early July 2009. |
