August 2010--The General Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program at The Toledo Hospital – Jobst Vascular Center is a two-year

vascular surgery residency program. I would like to take this opportunity to describe our program to you. I would

also like to ask you to relay this information to your surgical residents who are interested in pursuing a career in

vascular surgery. Jobst has one spot available for the academic years of 2011-2013 starting July 1, 2011 available. We will also be taking applications through ERAS for 2012-14 and we process our matches through NRMP.

We have graduated 10 two-year vascular surgery fellows. To date 7 fellows have passed their vascular surgery board

examinations. We have had three fellows sit and pass their Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) examination.

We have a close academic afiliation with the University of Michigan and our vascular fellows participate in the U of

M weekly vascular conference, monthly basic science conference and bi-monthly journal club.

Our vascular surgery fellows have completed 360-390 major open vascular reconstructions and a robust number of

endovascular procedures of all varieties. Clinical rotations include the noninvasive vascular laboratory both handson

testing and reading of reports, the peripheral vein service, interventional radiology in addition to the busy clinical

vascular surgery services.

Our fellows have actively participated in presentations at major regional, national and international programs. We

have good academic productivity, with numerous manuscripts in peer reviewed journals.

The faculty consists of six vascular surgeons and three interventional radiologists. One of the vascular surgeons limits

his clinical activity to venous disease.

The Jobst Vascular Center has excellent resources for the vascular surgery fellows, which include a medical editor, a

statistician, a computer graphics specialist, vascular registry personnel and clinical research nurses. This program is

excellent preparation for a career in academic vascular surgery as well as private practice.

I welcome inquiries and applications from any of your -ne surgical residents who would be interested in exploring

the opportunity to obtain their vascular surgery education here at the Jobst Vascular Center. I would also invite them

to visit our website at www.jvc.org. Since we are a free-standing program, we only accept candidates who have

completed their general surgery residency (5+2 program). Please include a CV with any inquiries to: Peggy Mauer, MEd, Residency/Conference Coordinator @ peggy.mauer@promedica.org.

Thank you for your help in disseminating this information to your interested residents.

Sincerely,

Anthony J. Comerota, MD, FACS, FACC
