1-2 year funded Translational Surgical Oncology Research Fellowship Opening for July, 2008
We have created a "Virtual Translational Surgical Oncology Laboratory" and are requesting applicants to work in this setting.  Applicants should have interest in translational immunology, surgical oncology, and clinical trials.  Qualified candidates should have 2 to 3 years of General Surgery training in an ACGME-certified program and be willing to spend 1-2 years in the project.  This position is rapidly evolving as we look towards starting our Phase I Clinical Trial on a second generation melanoma vaccine.  Responsibilities tend to be geared towards assistance with planning and execution of this trial, but also include presentations and writing papers for Journal submissions that may or may not be related to this particular trial. There will also be conferences and possible travel to the Contract Research Laboratory production site.  Stipend and Manhattan housing available with the position.

April 2008--RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY IN CARDIOTHORACIC SURGERY AT UCLA BEGINNING July 2008

Opportunity for research in a productive extra-murally funded laboratory in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCLA. 
RESEARCH DESCRIPTION:          

The primary focus of our research is to define the role/mechanism of naturally occurring and inducible regulatory CD4 lymphocytes in Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy (CAV) using a unique murine model of chronic rejection.  There will also be opportunities available for clinical research (i.e. investigating our experience with heart and lung transplantation)and other forms of clinical involvement.  The selected individual will be leading research technicians and laboratory assistants to design and execute projects under PI’s supervision.  Presenting at major national/international conferences are encouraged.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1)  Resident in an ACGME approved program (PGY-2 and above)

2)  California Medical Licensure

3)  Minimum 2-year commitment (may extend beyond 2-years and opportunity for an advance degree is available)

4)  Previous laboratory experience (i.e. familiarity with ELISPOT, MLR, RT-PCR, FACS, and IHC) is recommended.

5)  Self-motivated and able to work independently

April 2008--NEW TWO-YEAR ACCREDITED VASCULAR SURGERY RESIDENCY PROGRAM AT Scott & White Hospital, Texas A & M University Health Sciences Center-Temple, Texas. 

 

Applications are being accepted for a fellowship in Vascular Surgery, a 2-year ACGME-approved program at Scott & White Hospital starting July 1,

2008 or starting July 1, 2009.

 

The 5 member Division of Vascular Surgery performs over 1000 peripheral vascular surgery procedures each year, including open and endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery, endovascular thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection surgery, carotid endarterectomy and carotid stenting, peripheral bypass surgery and peripheral endovascular interventions, venous procedures including endovenous ablation and stenting, and traumatic vascular injuries. Vascular laboratory training and research will be expected and the Division is involved in many device trials.

 

Candidates must be board certified or board eligible in general surgery and be eligible for Texas medical licensure. Appropriate compensation, travel and meeting attendance is provided as part of the fellowship.

May 2008—Burn / Surgical Critical Care Fellowship-- The Arizona Burn Center at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix has an opening for a combined 18-month Burn Fellowship/ACGME-accredited Surgical Critical Care Residency beginning July 2009.  Applicants must have completed a General Surgery residency in an accredited ACGME program, be American Board of Surgery eligible/certified, and eligible for licensure in Arizona.  The overall objective of this Program is to provide the surgeon with the cognitive and technical skills to deliver comprehensive surgical and critical care to burn victims.  The program curriculum will consist of a structured critical care training program (including both surgical and burn ICU rotations), acute and reconstructive burn surgery, rehabilitation, and outpatient services management required in the treatment and care of the burn and critical surgical patients.  In addition, trainees are expected to participate in new and on-going clinical research studies.  One of the busiest burn centers in the country, the Arizona Burn Center currently admits each year more than 900 patients of all ages.  The Fellow will become a leader and integral member of the multidisciplinary burn team exemplifying both compassion, critical thinking, and actively contribute to the clinical and educational activities of the Burn Center while working closely with the members of the burn care staff.

May 2008--Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship 2008-2009
General Goals and Objectives--The Trauma Center at Maricopa Medical Center (Phoenix) has an unexpected opening for a one-year Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship beginning July 2008. Applicants must have completed an accredited General Surgery residency in an ACGME-accredited program prior to matriculation. Applicants must also be American Board of Surgery eligible / certified and able to obtain licensure in the State of Arizona.

Maricopa Medical Center is a busy, inner-city 449-bed Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center (www.aztraumacenter.com) and home to the Arizona Burn Center (www.azburncenter.com)

The overall objectives of the
Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship are: 1) To provide the surgeon with the cognitive and technical skills necessary to deliver expert trauma care, and 2) To provide the complete spectrum of management skills to care for emergency general surgery patients.

The program curriculum consists of surgical critical care, trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, and operative exposure to all surgical subspecialties that contribute to the management of trauma patients.  Participation in research programs will be expected and supported.

The
Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Fellow will become a leader and integral member of the multidisciplinary trauma team.  The Fellow will exemplify both compassion and critical thinking while actively contributing to the clinical and educational activities of the Trauma Center.  Their daily work will have them in close cooperation with students, general surgery house staff, and board-certified faculty surgeons.

If desired, further formal operative experience may be obtained with an additional 12-month, ACGME accredited, Surgical Critical Care Residency. SCC residents will benefit from a cooperative educational relationship between the faculty of Maricopa Medical Center and the Mayo Clinic Hospital (Arizona) Critical Care Unit, a private, highly specialized 208-bed healthcare facility. Each site has its own ACGME-accredited general surgery training program and provides continuous, in-house intensivist coverage serving as an additional educational resource for the SCC resident.

Qualifications of Applicant:  Completion of an ACGME accredited General Surgery residency program.  Applicants must be American Board of Surgery eligible to be considered for this ACGME accredited surgical critical care fellowship.

Description of Program:  U of L Hospital is the Level-I Trauma Center that services Kentucky and Southern Indiana.  U of L has multiple ICUs, including a 20 bed SICU and 5 bed Burn Unit.  Elective rotations are also available, and are incorporated into the fellow’s schedule to meet individual interests. While ideally the fellowship is designed for a classic two years of trauma and critical care training, a one year opportunity is also available with a primary focus on completing the requirements for surgical critical care.
