25 March 2008--The University of Miami Miller
School of Medicine (UMMSM) and its regional campus at Florida Atlantic
University (FAU) is seeking an experienced, highly energetic and
innovative physician to serve as Program Director for a new general
surgery residency program located at JFK Medical Center (www.jfkmc.com)
in Palm Beach County, Florida. Affiliations with other Palm Beach
County hospitals for selected rotations are anticipated. The surgery
residency program, which is scheduled to open in 2010, pending approval
by the ACGME, will be the second residency program at JFK Medical
Center. The first residency program at JFK Medical Center, a 66 position
integrated general internal medicine residency program with the West
Palm Beach V.A. Medical Center, will open in 2008.
Applicants must fulfill ACGME criteria for program director, be eligible for academic rank of associate or full professor (clinical track or other). Qualified applicants must also have the energy, vision and organizational and administrative skills necessary to build this new residency program from its inception. Salary and level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. 31 January 2008--The Department of Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital has an immediate opening for a Surgical Educator. The department maintains a substantive general surgical residency graduating six chief residents a year, and maintains over 30 residents during their development. The department engenders a commitment to educational excellence and seeks to formalize and improve its approach to the competencies and develop new research opportunities.
Current educational research includes: ethical reasoning, interview methods, simulation, interactive multimedia procedural education, institutional safety programs, crew resource management, and a host of others.
The department is known for innovation coupled with hard work. Resources for high level multi-media development and alternative learning environments (like the International Space Station) abound.
The Surgical Educator will work closely with our Program Director, Associate program directors and Program Coordinator, to develop and improve our learning environment. This will include development of curriculum, development and refinement of measurement and assessment tools, and academic publication. In addition, this individual will be expected to help residents interested in research with the development of protocols, statistical analysis, and creation of presentations/publications. Outreach programs including high schools and summer medical student internships are also within scope of this position. Grant experience and interest are encouraged. Through the Department’s affiliation with Wayne State University, an academic title and track can be developed.
