Date Posted: November 26, 2019

The Surgical Oncology Physician-Scientist Training Program at Weill Cornell Medicine is a two- to three-year mentored research training program designed for surgical residents interested in cancer biology and an eventual career coupling clinical care with basic and/or translational research. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive education and training program in aspects of laboratory and clinical investigation, with the possibility of obtaining a formal master's degree. The goal of this program is to ultimately train highly selected individuals who will go on to start a laboratory-based research programs alongside their clinical activities. The laboratory component of the training will be in the NIH-funded laboratory of Rohit Chandwani, M.D., Ph.D., to examine the epigenetic mechanisms of cancer. The focus of the Chandwani Lab is to understand the contribution that chromatin dysregulation has in tumor initiation and progression, with a specific focus on pancreatic and liver malignancies. Responsibilities will include the execution of both clinical projects as well as a long-term scientific inquiry in pancreatic cancer epigenetics.
