Non-ACGME General Thoracic Fellowship

Brigham and Women's Hospital
Date Posted: July 20, 2018

The program requires a medical degree and completion of a training program in General Surgery or Cardiothoracic Surgery. You must be able to obtain a limited medical license in Massachusetts at minimum, which requires the completion of USMLE Step 1, Step 2CK, and Step 2CS. Fellows must be able to demonstrate skills in fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery in our simulation lab. The General Thoracic Surgery Fellowship program is a one to two year non-ACGME approved program focusing on general thoracic surgery procedures and patient care. It is designed to provide General Thoracic Surgery training to physicians who are trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery and seek specialized additional training in General Thoracic Surgery, to those who are applying to attend an accredited residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery and want additional experience in General Thoracic Surgery, and to international fellows currently with a valid US Visa who are seeking training in General Thoracic Surgery. There are eighteen general thoracic surgeons staffing the Division of Thoracic Surgery at BWH, performing over 3,200 procedures in the last academic year. The fellows will work alongside residents enrolled in the accredited Thoracic Surgery program at BWH and actively participate in all educational conferences and activities. There is also an opportunity for clinical research.
