The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) has an outstanding opportunity for a surgical education specialist to serve the Department of Surgery’s Division of Education in a faculty level position. The successful candidate will need to meet institutional requirements for a faculty level position and will ideally have several years of experience in an academic institution, although early to midlevel applicants are also welcome. The person in this position will be responsible to develop, deliver, support and evaluate innovative, high-quality educational programs in a surgical department geared towards students, residents and faculty.
The Department of Surgery is comprised of multiple clinical divisions as well as a Division of Education and a Division of Research. There are 60 trainees in the department’s training programs which includes the General Surgery residency and eight fellowship programs. In addition to the General Surgery Program Director, there are five Associate Program Directors and three Curriculum Directors. Two Clerkship Directors manage the third and fourth year medical student surgery clerkship at 17 different hospital sites on the main campus and at community hospitals. Reporting to Brian Lewis, MD, Chief, Division of Education, the Education Specialist will collaborate with the General Surgery residency Program Director and Curriculum Directors, student Clerkship Directors, residency and clerkship program managers and coordinators as well as department faculty. Candidates should have a EdD or PhD in an education-related field with significant experience in education, an academic record of performance, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills.
