30 January 2007-It was announced on January 23, 2007 that Graduate Hospital has been sold and the buyer does not intend to keep the facility as an acute care facility. Thus, the hospital will no longer be able to support its surgical residency program. As a result, residents will be placed in orphaned status as of July 1, 2007, however, there is a need to place surgical residents at all PGY levels as early as March 1, 2007. From March 1 until June 30, 2007, the residents will continue to receive salaries, benefits, and malpractice coverage while they are training at other institutions. As the Program Director, I will continue to have oversight of the program.
